Architecture, design and sound must speak the same language
The boutique hotel experience is not defined by a single element, but by how the architecture, interior design, lighting, comfort and sound atmosphere work together. Every detail contributes to the overall perception of the location and how it remains in the guests’ memory.
Background music is one of those elements that clients rarely consciously notice, but that they constantly feel. When designed correctly, it naturally complements the space, without dominating conversations or distracting from the architecture and interior design.
This was also the objective of the project carried out for The Pines Bucegi Lodge, a boutique hotel located in a spectacular natural setting, overlooking the Bucegi Mountains, where every detail contributes to creating an authentic sense of relaxation.
The implementation of the professional sound system was carried out by Mathsys Security Solutions, an integrator specialized in security solutions. For this project, the company collaborated with ABC Tehno Solutions, exclusive value-added distributor of Ecler professional audio video equipment in Romania, which provided the audio solution and offered support for the system design and equipment configuration.
A professional sound system for hotels must be designed according to the architecture of the building, the functionality of each space and the experience that the beneficiary wants to offer to guests. Sound must be considered from the design phase

The positioning of the acoustic enclosures, their directivity, the sound pressure level and the possibility of independent control of each zone must be analyzed according to the interior architecture, the volumes of the rooms and the materials used.
A modern hotel sound system solution must provide not only uniform acoustic coverage, but also the flexibility necessary for independent management of each space.
The goal is not to achieve high volume. The goal is to create a balanced sound environment, in which the background music naturally complements the guests’ experience, whether they are in the reception, restaurant, lounge or on the terrace.
Each area has its own acoustic requirements and its own role in the overall hotel experience.
At The Pines Bucegi Lodge, the audio system was designed so that the technology remains almost invisible, and visitors’ attention is directed to the interior design and the spectacular panorama of the Bucegi Mountains.
Discreet integration of technology into interior design
One of the challenges of premium HoReCa projects is integrating technical equipment without affecting the architectural concept.
Wood-paneled ceilings, decorative lighting fixtures and generous glass surfaces define the identity of the hotel’s common spaces. For this reason, Ecler DROP6 suspended enclosures were chosen, which integrate naturally between the decorative elements, becoming part of the interior design.
In the restaurant, the Ecler ARQISSB6Ti subwoofer completes the low frequency response, providing a balanced and natural sound. Ecler eMOTUS5OD enclosures, designed for outdoor operation, were used for the terrace, and Ecler IC6 recessed speakers were installed in the halls and bathrooms, so that the sound experience is maintained in all spaces accessible to guests.
At first glance, attention is drawn to the architecture, furniture and view, not the audio equipment. This very discretion is one of the goals of a well-designed professional system.
Through this approach, the Ecler professional audio solution integrates naturally into the architecture and interior design, without compromising the aesthetics of the location.
A different atmosphere for every moment of the day
The hotel experience is constantly changing throughout the day.
Every moment of the day implies a different mood, and the audio system must naturally adapt to these changes.
In the morning, the restaurant hosts breakfast in a calm and relaxed atmosphere. During the day, the lobby becomes a space for socializing or informal meetings, and in the evening the restaurant can host private dinners or small events.
For this reason, the audio system must allow rapid adaptation of the sound atmosphere, without complex technical interventions.
Each zone operates independently, and the sound level can be adjusted so that the ambient music complements the activity being performed, without becoming a dominant element.
This flexibility contributes to guest comfort and to maintaining a unified identity throughout the location.

Intuitive control and energy efficiency
A high-performance audio system means not only quality equipment, but also the possibility for hotel staff to use it simply and intuitively.
At the heart of the installation is the Ecler MIMO88SG digital matrix, responsible for the independent management of all audio zones, providing true multi-zone audio control, adapted to the requirements of a modern boutique hotel.
Overall control of the system is achieved through an Ecler WPNETTOUCH touch panel, which allows the management of audio zones and the adjustment of essential parameters from an intuitive interface.
Daily operation thus becomes simple and intuitive, without requiring technical knowledge from the hotel staff.
For permanent background music, the Ecler DUO-NET network player was integrated into the rack, distributing audio content to all the hotel’s sound spaces.
The restaurant benefits from an additional level of flexibility. Ecler WPaBT and Ecler WPaMIX-T were installed in this area, allowing for quick Bluetooth connection of mobile devices, as well as the use of a microphone or other local audio sources, without affecting the operation of the other areas.
The system amplification is achieved using the Ecler HSA2-400ES, eHSA4-150, eGPA4-150, eGPA2-150 and eGPA2-300 models, sized so that each zone benefits from the necessary power and sufficient reserves for reliable long-term operation.
In addition to sound performance, the amplifiers also contribute to reducing energy consumption through the auto-standby function, automatically switching to a low-power mode when there is no audio signal. In a hotel location, where the schedule of each area differs throughout the day, this function contributes to increasing energy efficiency and optimizing operating costs.
Sound atmosphere influences the perception of service quality
A 2024 field experiment published in the peer-reviewed journal Behavioral Sciences measured how background music tempo affects real restaurant patrons. Guests exposed to slower music stayed the longest, followed by a control group with no music intervention, while guests exposed to faster music left soonest. Bill amounts did not differ significantly between groups, although tips were higher when the music was faster (Malcman, Azar, Shavit & Rosenboim, 2024).
This confirms something hotel operators already sense intuitively: the pace and character of background music shape how guests experience a space, not just how they feel about it.
