The classic underdog script consists of the following sequence of events: A disadvantaged person, or underdog, is the target of disrespect or oppression by others who hold the greater power. The underdog seeks to achieve a noble goal but is repeatedly thwarted by the established power. There is great struggle and pain along the underdog’s journey. Courage and persistence are the keys to the underdog’s ultimate success. Like the tortoise, the underdog eventually prevails, and in the process he or she wins over the hearts and minds of nearly all observers.
